Zynoff Eye/Ear Drop

Ofloxacin is a synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA replication by targeting enzymes essential for bacterial growth, making it effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.[1][2] Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1990, it is classified as a second-generation fluoroquinolone with high oral bioavailability (approximately 98%) and a half-life of 4 to 8 hours in individuals with normal renal function.[2][1] Chemically, it is known as 9-fluoro-2,3-dihydro-3-methyl-10-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-7-oxo-7H-pyrido[1,2,3-de]-1,4-benzoxazine-6-carboxylic acid, with the molecular formula C₁₈H₂₀FN₃O₄ and a molecular weight of 361.4 g/mol.[1] Ofloxacin does not contain iodine, as its molecular formula C₁₈H₂₀FN₃O₄ consists only of carbon, hydrogen, fluorine, nitrogen, and oxygen. Pharmaceutical formulations, including tablets, ophthalmic solutions, and otic solutions, contain inactive ingredients such as lactose monohydrate, benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, and water (purified or for injection), none of which contain iodine.[3][4][5]
