Capecitabine, sold under the brand name Xeloda among others, is an anticancer medication used to treat breast cancer, gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. For breast cancer it is often used together with docetaxel. It is taken by mouth.

Capecitabine is an orally administered fluoropyrimidine carbamate prodrug that functions as an antineoplastic agent, primarily used in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer and colorectal cancer. It is enzymatically converted in the body to the active metabolite 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which inhibits thymidylate synthase and interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis, thereby disrupting the growth of cancer cells.[1] Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1998 and marketed under the brand name Xeloda, capecitabine offers a convenient oral alternative to intravenous 5-FU therapies.[2]
