Clarithromycin is a semisynthetic macrolide antibiotic derived from erythromycin, chemically known as 6-O-methylerythromycin with the molecular formula C₃₈H₆₉NO₁₃.[1][2] It belongs to the class of macrolide antibiotics and is used to treat a variety of mild-to-moderate bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, skin, and soft tissues.[3][2] Clarithromycin exhibits a broader spectrum of activity and improved pharmacokinetic profile compared to its parent compound erythromycin, allowing for better oral absorption and tissue penetration.[4]
