Senna glycoside, also known as sennosides, refers to a group of anthraquinone glycosides, primarily sennosides A and B, derived from the leaves and pods of the senna plant (Senna alexandrina, syn. Cassia angustifolia or Cassia acutifolia). These natural compounds, approved by the FDA as an over-the-counter medication, act as a stimulant laxative by irritating the lining of the bowel to promote peristalsis and increase intestinal fluid secretion, typically producing a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours.[1][2][3]
