Podophyllum resin
Podophyllum resin, also known as podophyllum or podophyllin, is a resin made from the roots of the American mandrake. It is used as a medication to treat genital warts and plantar warts, including in Immunosuppressed individuals, like people living with HIV/AIDS. It is not recommended in HPV infections without external warts. Application by a healthcare provider to the skin is recommended.

Podophyllum resin
Podophyllum resin, also known as podophyllin, is a resinous extract derived from the rhizomes and roots of the mayapple plant (Podophyllum peltatum), native to eastern North America, or from Podophyllum hexandrum (Indian mayapple).[1][2] It serves as a topical caustic and antimitotic agent primarily used to treat benign epithelial growths, such as genital and anal warts (condylomata acuminata) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), by destroying the tissue of the affected growths.[3][4] The resin appears as an amorphous powder ranging from light brown to greenish-yellow or brownish-gray, with a characteristic odor, and is highly irritating to eyes and mucous membranes.[2]
