Metoclopramide is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and prokinetic agent used primarily to treat gastrointestinal disorders characterized by delayed gastric emptying and nausea.[1] It is FDA-approved for short-term relief of symptoms associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults unresponsive to conventional therapy and for the management of acute and recurrent diabetic gastroparesis.[2] Off-label applications include chemotherapy-induced emesis and hyperemesis gravidarum; the parenteral form is approved for postoperative nausea and vomiting, though overall use is limited to 4-12 weeks to minimize risks.[1]
