Insulin aspart is a rapid-acting recombinant human insulin analogue used for the management of diabetes mellitus in adults and pediatric patients, featuring a single amino acid substitution of aspartic acid for proline at the B28 position of the insulin B-chain, which promotes a monomeric structure at physiological pH and accelerates subcutaneous absorption compared to native human insulin.[1][2] This modification results in a pharmacokinetic profile with an onset of action within 10 to 20 minutes, peak effect at 1 to 3 hours, and duration of 3 to 5 hours, enabling more precise control of postprandial glucose excursions.[1][3]
