Malirid

Primaquine is a synthetic 8-aminoquinoline antimalarial medication approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the radical cure (prevention of relapse) of malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax, and is commonly used for the same purpose in Plasmodium ovale malaria as well as for suppressing transmission of Plasmodium falciparum gametocytes.[1] It works by targeting the exoerythrocytic (liver) stages of the malaria parasite, killing hypnozoites that can cause relapses, and is typically administered orally as primaquine phosphate tablets containing 15 mg of the base.[2] Unlike blood schizontocidal antimalarials, primaquine is able to eradicate the dormant liver forms of the parasite, making it essential for complete treatment of relapsing malaria species.[3]
