Doxycycline, sold under the brand names Vibramycin and Doryx, among others, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline class used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria and certain parasites. It is used to treat bacterial pneumonia, acne, chlamydia infections, Lyme disease, cholera, typhus, and syphilis, and is sometimes used to prevent malaria. Doxycycline may be taken by mouth or intravenously.

Doxycycline is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic in the tetracycline class, derived from oxytetracycline, that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, exerting a bacteriostatic effect against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as atypical pathogens like chlamydia and mycoplasma.[1][2][3]
