It is also available in drug combinations such as loratadine/pseudoephedrine, in which it is combined with pseudoephedrine, a nasal decongestant. It is taken orally.

Loratadine is a second-generation antihistamine medication that acts as a selective antagonist of peripheral histamine H1-receptors to alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria.[1] Developed by Schering-Plough as a non-sedating alternative to earlier antihistamines, it was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1993 under the brand name Claritin for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis.[2][1]
